Tours of Mountain Peaks
Hochwart 2,608 mt.
You can either walk up from the valley or catch the cable-car from Rabland to Aschbach at 1,340 mt. and take path no. 27 for approx. 1.5 hours to the Naturnoer Alm (1,922 ,t.) then on along path no. 9 for about 2.5 hours to the Naturnser Hochwart. Other paths lead up from the Kreuzbrünnl car park on the Naturnser Nörderberg (approx. 1,580 mt.) then to the Naturnser Alm, the Altalm or Zetnalm, the Frantschalm also called the Mauslochalm or via the Tablander Alm.
Walking time: starting from the valley : 5-6 hours.
N.B.: Please note certain parts of the walk reach over 2,000 metres! There may still be snow drifts and ice along the path in early summer.
KIRCHBACHSPITZ 2,951 mt.
Take path no. 6 from Naturno to the Schatzhof and on up the steeper Wiesenpfad, meadow path, through a sparse larch wood to above the tree-line. The walk gets somewhat steeper as it continues over partly-exposed sloping meadows to reach the Schäferhütte and then the Gipfelgrat. Then downwards over Geröll and Weideböden to the Oberen Mairalm (1.5 hours) and again downwards over the Dicker Alm to the Dickhof and on to Kompatsch.
Please note: Only for fit, sure-footed walkers with ample stamina who do not suffer from giddiness.
Uphill: walking time approx. 6 hours. Remember the 2,525 mt. difference in altitude and allow yourselves enough time for the return.
Finailspitze 3,516 mt. – Tisenjoch, the place where Ötzi was found
Starting from the Schnals valley, take the cable-car to the Grawand (3,200mt.). Climb to the Finailköpfe and on to the peak in 2.5 – 3 hours. Then down to the Tisenjoch where Ötzi was discovered and on to the Similaunhütte, a mountain rescue hut. Continue through the Tisen valley to the Vernagt dam and reservoir.
Please note: Glacier tour only for climbers in top condition, roped climb at peak.
Total time required: about 6 hours, 400 mt. altitude difference.
Weisskugel 3,739 mt.
Go to the Schönen Aussicht hut in the Schnals valley the day before - approx. 2 hours. Leave early the next morning and hike to the Teufelsegg and the Steinschlagjoch. Roped climb to the Hintereisjoch and over the snow field to the Gipfelgrat with an easy roped climb to the peak.
Please note: demanding glacier tour, only for climbers in top condition.
Total time required: about 7-8 hours, approx. 1,100 mt. altitude difference.
Ortler 3,902 mt.
Take the Langenstein lift from Sulden to the Payerhütte, approx. 3 hours, the day before. Easy roped climb to the Tschirfeck. Then over the Bärenloch to the Lombardi bivouac and over the Great Ortler plateau to the peak.
Please note: roped climb grade II-III, demanding glacier tour, only for climbers in top condition.
Total time required: about 8 hours, 900 mt. altitude difference to Payerhütte.
Cevedale 3,769 mt.
By cable-car from Sulden, then roped climb over the Sulden glacier and the Eisseepass to the Casatti- hütte. Continue over wide glacier fields for the final steep climb to the peak.
