Naturno - paradise for walking and hiking fans

Walkers and hikers are sure to enjoy themselves in Naturno. There really is something for everyone from an easy stroll in the valley or something a little more adventurous up in the mountains! So much to choose from and a variety of delighful contrasts: snow-white glaciers, fertile green fruit orchards, harsh rock faces, palm trees and lush Alpine meadows.

Springtime with its mild, balmy Mediterranean weather sees the valley carpeted with fragrant blossom while the cold wind still whistles in your ears high up on the mighty mountain peaks.

Kneipp treatment in and around Naturno

Pastor Sebastian Kneipp was one of the first people to look for possible natural treatments for various health problems and conditions. He especially recommended Water Therapy, the use of cold and warm water pools, steam and wrapping treatment with warm, damp bandages. His various therapies are very popular nowadays and are successful in the treatment of a number of different conditions. Kneipp treatments are used to cure both high and low blood pressure, help relieve pain and can also be beneficial for certain heart and vascular conditions. Furthermore, they play an important role in preventive and restorative medicine.

The Naturno Tourist Authority has sponsored a special natural Kneipp area comprising a number of landscaped pools and streams filled with crystal-clear mountain water which meander along the sides of both the Monte Tramontana Mountain and the Monte Sole Mountain. The water courses are well-marked and there are information boards explaining how things work at various places along the route.

Llama-trekking

Hiking with llamas, which will even carry your rucksack - that's a special experience!
Llamas are good-natured, very social and sure-footed pack animals. They are extremely curious and will approach people easily. As the llamas belong to the family of camelids, their feet has a soft, leatherly-like pad on the bottom. Their padded feet don't damage the ground when they are travelling, which is another reason why they are becoming quite popular for hiking tours.
Spitting: llamas only spit at each other as a way of disciplining lower-ranked llamas in the herd, or if they feel threatened.
The Tourist Office Naturno organizes, together with the nature and landscape guide Günther Platzgummer and its llamas, trekking tours for families and children (explications only in German or Italian). For detailed information please visit the event-calendar or the program for kids 2010 on our homepage.
Alpine Wellness in Naturno

Remember: sports doctors claim that:

Walking in the mountains helps lower high blood pressure and improve the body’s metabolic.

A walking holiday in the mountains at between 1,400 and 2,000 metres above sea-level is an extremely healthy option. Research carried out by a group of Austrian sports doctors shows that this kind of exercise has an extremely beneficial effect and there is proof that people who go hiking on middle range mountains on a regular basis are less subject to high blood pressure and burn sugars more effectively.

An active holiday in the mountains has an especially beneficial effect regarding the distribution of oxygen throughout the body as regular exercise helps strengthen the red blood cells which carry oxygen through our blood stream. This helps rejuvenate the blood and many athletes prefer to train at relatively high altitude. Doctors also say that walking and other open-air activity help us sleep well and feel more optimistic.
