Reinhold Messner

Reinhold Messner has undertaken more than one hundred expeditions in various mountainous areas and deserts and written something like three dozen books since 1969. His expeditions include countless “firsts”, he has climbed all the fourteen over 8,000 mt. peaks in the world, crossed Greenland and tried to solve the mystery of the yeti. He and his family divide their time between Merano and Juval Castle near Naturno where he writes, houses his own museum and oversees the running of a number of mountain farmsteads.

A visit to Juval Castle is a real adventure, full of harmony and surprises, and its many visitors usually spend more than just a few hours there. Messner’s aim is to preserve and protect local nature, culture and farming lore and he has created his own utopia at the castle by providing attractive, alternative accommodation and food.
South Tyrol's most famous mountaineer, Reinhold Messner, spends the summer months at Juval Castle, his family's home, high above Naturno.Reinhold Messner
