St. Procolo Church

St. Procolo, a delightful little church just outside Naturno, is the most famous and most written about monument in South Tyrol. It was built in the seventh century and dedicated to St. Procolo, Bishop of Verona and patron saint of cattle and irrigation supplies. Its pre-Carolingian frescos are considered to be the most significant art treasure in Middle Europe while the fourteenth century Gothic frescos depicting the Creation are also much appraised.

St. Procolo is seen on a swing on the south wall of the church as a symbolic representation of his escape over Verona's city walls. You will see more famous pre-Carolingian and Gothic frescos during your guided visit and the archaeological exhibition at the Naturno Village Hall is also well worth a look.

The Procolo Museum

Historic, little St. Procolo church, just outside the village of Naturno, is well-known for its wonderful Medieval frescos and has even more to offer now that a museum about its history opened in Spring 2006. The Procolo Museum, housed under-ground a mere short walk from the church itself, gives visitors a fascinating, multi-media trip back into the past.
