Towns and hamlets

The holiday region of Naturno and its surrounding area stretch from the picturesque hamlet of Plaus, near Merano, to the westerly village of Stava on the Vinschgau valley border.

Naturno is just 13 km west of the spa town of Merano, at 554m above sea level.

With around 5,500 inhabitants, the town is one of the biggest municipalities of the valley. Around the valley and on the banks of the Etsch river you will find the three villages of Tablà, Cirlano and Stava. The hamlet of Plaus has also, in the last few years, to all intents and purposes become part of the municipality of Naturno from a tourism point of view.

On both sides of the valley, the Sonnenberg and Nörderberg mountains, traditional farms of the South Tyrolean landscape abound. The roughly 315 days of sun per year and the mild climate, from the Merano basin to Naturno, create numerous rich Mediterranean contrasts in the Alpine landscape. Palms and Cypress spruce grow here, for example, or, especially on mount Sonnenberg, a distinctive range of plants which are normally found in southern climes.

The elegant centres of these peaceful villages have an urban feel with their historic buildings and old alleys. On the sunny side of the Alps, nestled in extensive fruit orchards with a view over the angular, almost 3,000m high peaks of the Kirchbach on one side and the lush forests of the Nörderberg on the other, one can only rejoice!
